The Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Initiative at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania has begun using Upright's net impact data in a new research project exploring various dimensions of monetized impact data.

The project will analyze the link between company impact and its contingent link to financial performance – a million dollar question in the field of sustainability metrics.

Witold J. Henisz, leading the project as vice dean and faculty director at Wharton's ESG Initiative, remarks: “Budding dollar impact data providers are a new frontier for ESG practice and research. It is important to assess the methodology, accuracy, coverage, and correlations by which outcomes are translated into dollarized values.”

Upright is honored to welcome the University of Pennsylvania as the latest addition to universities using net impact data for research.

“We warmly welcome academic institutions to join the ongoing discussions on what company impact is and how to quantify it. Given that Upright relies on open science as its primary source for quantifying company impact, it is a natural choice for us to contribute to the scientific community whenever possible," says Milja Asikainen, Upright's VP, Data.

The project started in December 2023, anticipated to be completed during 2024 – stay tuned for results.
